Music for a Funeral
Mass
If music is desired
for a funeral mass, 3 or 4 hymns should be
chosen from the list which follows:
- A Processional
Hymn
- A Psalm
- chosen from a booklet for Funeral Planning.
The Psalm may be sung or read. If sung,
the list which follows gives the appropriate
number in the Catholic Book of Worship III.
- Procession
with the Gifts - If the family
is doing this, a short hymn can be chosen.
If not, the organist will play a suitable
piece of music.
- Communion
- 1 or 2 hymns, depending on the size of
the mass.
- Recessional
Hymn
If the family does not
wish to choose the music, it can be chosen
by the musicians.
Twenty-four hours advance
notice for your choices would be appreciated.
Last minute choices may not be able to be
done although we would try to be accommodating.
The music listed is
from the Parish's current hymn book. An additional
hymn book is on order and the list may be
expanded in the future.
Please be aware that
a funeral liturgy is sacred and religious
in nature - the music chosen must reflect
this! Other works of music, (i.e. secular)
may have a deep sentimental value to the deceased
or family member. These pieces may be considered
as a possibility for the funeral home wake.
